Camera distortion calibration and compensation

Research description

Distortion calibration aims at estimation of unknown parameters of the distortion by using modelling or computing distortion map. Distortion compensation is the process of distortion correction based on calibration results. This task is very important for the vision systems which derive spatial relation from image, e.g. 3D modelling and reconstruction systems, manufacturing control and measurement systems, robot self-localisation. For example, in images being of size of few MB, the geometrical distortion can rich even tens of pixels near image border. Current researches aim at developing of effective and universal methods for camera calibration and compensation. Among others, we consider methods that use chessboard and stripe patterns.
